The Day We Found Out

It was Friday, November 16th, a day we had looked forward to for well over a year.  It is also a day that I will never forget.  I had the whole day off so I woke up around 7 and made my morning trip to the bathroom.  On my way there I realized that I had my annual GYN appointment in a few short hours.  Being the diligent nurse that I am, I decided to take a pregnancy test to cover all of the bases before my appointment.  I was diagnosed with PCOS (more on that later) seven months earlier so I knew I would never really have regular cycles.  Still, my period was a good week late according to my Period Log app (definitely worth a download!) so I wanted to ensure that I wasn't pregnant before going in for the always enjoyable pap smear.

Given my history, I could hardly believe my eyes when the plus sign appeared.  Being the crazy person that I am, I immediately dug out all of the pregnancy tests (including some from ovulation test kits) that I had and tested them all.  The good news was confirmed 3 more times at which point I finally let myself believe it.  The squealing and a happy dance immediately ensued.
I wanted to call VABeau so badly with the exciting news but I decided to wait until after my doctors appointment that morning.  I have never been so excited to visit the doctor in my life!  Once there, My physician did another urine test (POSITIVE again!), we discussed possible conception dates, and she went ahead and did a pap smear and additional prenatal tests.  She said, based on my dates, that it would be too early to attempt an ultrasound, but she did additional blood work to test my HcG levels to officially confirm the pregnancy.  She is amazing and called me with the results as soon as they came in 2 days later!

With the pregnancy confirmed by my doctor that same morning, I decided to share the news with VABeau when he got home from work that afternoon. I was driving home from the doctors office, day dreaming about the perfect way to tell him, when I was hit on my driver side by an idiot driver.  Yes that same car accident I posted about months ago just happened to occur on one of the most exciting days of my life.  Fortunately, I was okay, but definitely shaken up.
I was on the wildest emotional roller coaster and I couldn't even have a drink to deal with all of the crazy feelings I was experiencing after a positive pregnancy test and my first car accident all in one day!  I ended up having to call VABeau about my accident and I was very afraid of sounding too happy considering the car accident news I was sharing.  Somehow I concealed the pregnancy news over the phone and simply begged him to come home as early as possible.
I finally got home hours later with a busted car but not a busted mood.  I immediately grabbed a bottle of champagne from the wine fridge and a bottle of San Pellegrino (my current drink of choice) and went about setting up my surprise for VABeau.  When he walked in the door minutes later he couldn't stop talking about my car and insisted that we immediately go outside and take pictures of it.  I told him we could do that, but first, I wanted to share a drink with him and led him into the kitchen.  He saw the display but couldn't understand why I wanted to pop champagne at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon.  I had to prompt him a bit and ask him why he thought that there was a bottle of sparkling water there too.  That's when I visibly saw it register.  At that moment he got the biggest grin on his face, he grabbed me in a tight hug, and we both jumped up and down in the kitchen.  I knew then and there that the car accident would be forgotten in several years, but that moment we shared in the kitchen, however, we will remember for the rest of our lives.
